What a Postpartum Doula Does
Types of Doulas
While birth and postpartum doulas are the most common, there are five primary types of doulas who specialize in the maternal journey, supporting every stage of family building:
Birth Doulas: Support individuals during labor and delivery, providing comfort measures (like breathing techniques and positioning) and advocating for the birthing person's preferences.
Postpartum Doulas: Provide support in the weeks or months after childbirth by assisting with newborn care, light household tasks, emotional adjustment, and feeding guidance.
Antepartum Doulas: Assist individuals experiencing high-risk pregnancies or those placed on bed rest, offering physical and emotional support to manage challenging symptoms.
Fertility Doulas: Guide and support individuals and couples through the conception process, including tracking cycles and navigating assisted reproductive technologies like IVF.
Full-Spectrum Doulas: Offer compassionate care across the entire reproductive journey, including pregnancy, birth, adoption, and pregnancy loss (miscarriage or abortion).
What I Do as a Postpartum Doula
My role as your postpartum doula is to wrap your family in support after your baby arrives. Because every family is unique, I tailor my care to your specific needs, but my support typically includes:
Overnight newborn care so you can get deep, restorative sleep.
Feeding support, whether you are breastfeeding, bottle-feeding, or navigating pumping.
Setting foundations to help your baby establish healthy sleeping routines.
Emotional reassurance and a grounding presence as you navigate the fourth trimester.
Light household support focused entirely on baby-related tasks (like baby laundry and bottle sterilization).
I am fully trained and certified by ProDoula, DONA International, CAPPA, and Doulas of Southern California (DASC). But beyond the certifications, I bring the lived experience of having supported over 20 different families. I can assure you an attentive, intuitive level of care that can't be taught in a classroom—I can't wait to support your family's next chapter.
Newborn Nest Doula proudly supports families throughout Los Angeles and surrounding communities, including Woodland Hills, West Hills, Calabasas, and many other areas throughout the greater Los Angeles region.
